Those weekend moments when you have to visit a local grocery store to buy some of your favorite are surely fun. You get to grab those refreshing drinks, crunchy chips and meaty sausages. But are you aware of healthy facts and issues regarding foods and beverages you buy at the grocery? You may assume the energy drink and whole grain bread are healthy because of how they are labeled, but think again before buying. So as precaution, here are some real truths about some common grocery foods and beverages.
Peanut Butter
The issue about a jar of peanut butter is fattiness. Most manufacturers of peanut butter nowadays try to reduce the fat. However, they replace fat with more sugar, so that’s still not a good news. It’s better to stick with the regular fat peanut butter, rather than taking all the sweetness that are fake.
Bottled Drinks
One of the easiest to grab at a local grocery store for a quick trip is a beverage. All kinds of beverages in bottles from iced tea to energy drinks seem too good to be true. First, an iced tea drink in a bottle is full of sugar, so it just helps add pounds to your weight. Energy drinks are not as healthy as you think, because they have sugar and other ingredients that can actually contribute to certain conditions like stroke, cardiovascular disease and death.
Powdered Juices and Teas
Artificial juices and teas that are packed in small pouches are also something to be careful of when adding them into the cart. Most of these flavored drinks are made of ingredients that are not natural. In fact, they are filled with a lot of fructose corn syrup, which is a type of sugar that can make you fat.
Frozen Meat
Burger patties, sausages, hotdogs, chicken nuggets, and other packed and frozen meat do sure look delicious and taste so yummy. Most of these are filled with preservatives and chemicals that help contain meat for weeks and months. Protein Snack Bars
You probably won’t forget those small bars called protein snacks, like oatmeal bars and granola bars. They are not completely healthy at all, because they still contain sugar and fat. For a richer and more nutritious content, just have some slices of fresh fruits and nuts.
The best and wisest thing to do is to always check the labels of whatever you are buying. You have to know the ingredients and the nutritional products of those grocery products. This lets you easily differ which one is healthier and which one is not. It would be a secondary step to look at the price, because sometimes buyers just focus on the tag, while they forgot the contents whether they actually healthy or not.
